“The only thing that’s keeping you from getting what you want is the story you keep telling yourself.” Tony Robbins
When I became a coach in 2015, I worried that it really needed an HR background. Imposter syndrome kept me awake many a night, till I realised that I was listening to stories that did not serve me, even if it was in my own head.
When I coach clients, I hear statements like, “I can never get it right”, “Nothing I do ever makes my boss happy’ and variations thereof.
Over time, these stories become deeply entrenched, limiting beliefs.
In my coaching sessions, they learn to rewrite them – they are the authors after all; and make progress in areas that have held them back.
This is true across age groups. A student I am working with, never put in much effort because she felt she was mediocre.
In a couple of months, she has learned to look at herself differently and her work ethic and confidence has gone up tremendously. At a crucial stage when she prepares to leave for college.
Are you aware of the stories playing out in your head? What if you change the script, how would it look for you?
